Reading Challenges

In addition to my usual Goodreads challenge each year, where I set a goal to read so many books per year, I’ve been excited to start some additional reading challenges as well! I’ve listed them all here for easy access.

Ongoing Reading Challenges

Some of the challenges I participate in transcend beyond whatever year I started them, such as:

2015 Reading Challenges

2015challengeThis year I decided to lay off on all of the reading goals and challenges. This year, I’m concentrating on catching up with series I’m in the middle of, and reading books that I already own. My plan is to not start any new series until I’m caught up on all or most of the ones I’m partway through. I don’t want to set any large quantity goals for myself either, so for 2015 I’ve set my Goodreads challenge to 12 books — 1 book per month. (I will likely read much more than that, but the point is to not stress myself out.)

2014 Reading Challenges

As usual, I’ve set a goal on Goodreads to read a certain amounts of books in 2014. This time I’ve decided to reduce my goal to 52. True, it’s only 8 books less than last year’s goal, but it means one book a week instead of 5 books a month. Also: yes, I know that last year I went way over my goal of 60, but again… moderation, here. Once again, I surpassed my goal.

In addition, I set several additional reading goal in 2014:

For posterity, I’ve decided to collect most of my reading challenges for 2014 in one spot. Please visit my 2014 Reading Challenges page if you would like to see them.

2013 Reading Challenges

completedFor 2013, I set my Goodreads goal to 50 books and then increased it to 60. I could have raised it more, but I wasn’t sure I would have as much time for reading as I did in 2012. Yes, I surpassed my goal, by way more than I expected (like, double)!

In addition, I set several additional reading goal in 2013:

2012 Reading Challenges

2012 Reading Challenge CompletedGearing up for an actual challenge this year, I started with a Goodreads goal of 24 books (double my goal from last year), but by May it was pretty clear that I was going to read way more than 24 books by the end of the year. So I increased by goal to 50. I’m happy to say that I surpassed that goal by 60%, (about a dozen) novellas and companion stories included.

In addition to my Goodreads goal, I also decided to try out the Debut Author Challenge for 2012. The goal is to read 12 YA books that are from debut authors in 2012, and review them all. I read 13, but only reviewed about half of them. I still say I completed the challenge. :P

2011 Reading Challenges

2011 Reading Challenge CompletedIn 2011 I pledged to read 12 books (this was back when I wasn’t reading quite as much, and also wasn’t rally tracking my progress on Goodreads). I finished with 18 books marked as read in 2011, which I think is pretty good considering I wasn’t really even trying! (This was the year that I finally got interested in YA, though, which is probably why I surpassed my goal).
