Accepting Guest Posts

While some of our readers only come to Oh, the Books! to read the thoughts and opinions of Asti and Kelley, we have others who come here just for the discussion posts. And while do our best to write meaningful discussions regularly, sometimes the inspiration just doesn’t strike. As a result, our doors are open to other bloggers who would like to write a discussion post for Oh, the Books!

Previously, we restricted this to newbie bloggers (those who have started their blog in the last six months), but we are now opening this feature to all bloggers. Please read the requirements below, and (if you’re interested) submit the guest post form at the bottom of this post. Asti is in charge of this Guest Post feature and will do her best to respond to your submitted request within three business days.

The Rules

  • The guest post must be in the form of a discussion. This feature receives the best response when the guest post takes the form of a discussion post. Please choose a book-related, OtB-appropriate topic to discuss. If you are not sure what to write about, we encourage you to check out the previous discussions on our blog or look at Asti’s Discussion Topics A to Z post. You can also tweet us if you would like our feedback on your idea.
  • The guest post should not be an advertisement. While we do promote the guests that are featured on our blog, the post itself should not be an advertisement. Discussion posts at Oh, the Books! are used to encourage an open exchange of ideas – not to push products (whether it be a blog, book, mailing subscription, etc.) onto our readers.
  • Images used within your guest post must be credited. Whether the photos are yours or you found them online, please include a source link for each one. As the images we will be posted on our blog, we do not want to get in trouble for violation of any sort of copyright.
  • Posts are scheduled in order they are received. We cannot confirm when your post will go live until you have sent us the finished draft as we schedule in the order that we receive them. If you have a date set in mind that you would like the post to go up though, please let us know and we will see what we can do.
  • You have one month to submit your guest post after submitting the guest post form. Asti will contact you confirming that she has received the guest post form. Guest posters will have one month from the time they receive the confirmation email from Asti to submit their finished guest post. If the post is not received within that one month deadline, we will assume you are no longer interested in contributing a guest post. You will be required to resubmit the form.

The Guest Post Form

If a post does not satisfy the rules stated above, we have the right to refuse it. Please ensure you have read them before submitting the form.

  1. Well I don’t fit the criteria to guest post (saaaad) but I think it’ll be interesting hearing from newbie bloggers around the place. :) Although I AM here to read you guys’ post…but still! XD Great idea and I love how you promote other bloggers and interact. So awesome!

  2. I think it’s a cool idea to introduce a series of guest posts by newer bloggers because I can get a flavour of the way bloggers I haven’t come across before write then I can go follow them, etc. I think it goes so very nicely with the ethos of this blog , since the three of you share a lot of links and bring people together through games, that it should provide a platform for showcasing other people’s writing across the book blogging community. It has a such a sweet sentiment behind it so I look forward to these Friday guest posts.

  3. I really like this idea and I also like how it’s mostly for newbie bloggers. I really want to discover some new blogs and bloggers and I think this feature is a great way for that! I can’t wait to check out their blogs and read their posts! :)

    • Yes! Doesn’t it seem like it’s hard sometimes to find all the newbie bloggers? I mean, there’s nothing wrong with those of us who have been around for a while ;) but sometimes it’s nice to hear what the fresh voices in the blogosphere have to say!

  4. I love this idea, especially the goal of helping new bloggers get their names out there. This blog is an inspiration. And to Leanne – I feel your pain! I blog on Pub(lishing) Crawl once or twice a week, and even that schedule can be challenging. :) Kelley and Asti – kudos to you for all the great content you create!

  5. I absolutely love this idea, it’s wonderful! I’m just outside of the six month radius because I’ve been blogging for around 8 months, but it feels crazy to still think of myself as a ‘newbie.’ 8 months feels like aaaaaaages! But I love coming across other ‘newbie’ bloggers and I think this is a fantastic way to do just that, means we can find other people with voices we like, posts that interest us and wonderful blogs to visit, so great idea girls! :)

    • Haha, I myself go back and forth from feeling like I’ve done this forever to feeling like I’ve just started – and really I’ve been doing it for… 14 months now?

But hey, if you ever want to talk to me about possibly doing a guest post, feel free to submit the form! Newbies will be given first dibs, but if we have open spots due to lack of interest or someone dropping out, we can always add yours instead!

  6. *Sigh* My reputation as an experienced and globally loved author is finally catching up to me and biting me in the butt by not allowing me to be part of this ;)

Seriously though, this is an awesome idea. I’m really excited to uncover some blogger talent that’s been hidden underneath internet rocks and such. Great idea, guys!

  7. What a TERRIFIC idea.

It will be great to hear from newbie bloggers and to visit their blogs. New bloggers need encouragement, and this is a great way to help them out if needed.

We may even learn some new things ourselves that we can use on our blog.

    • Yes, I agree! I was sort of shocked when I was sitting there trying to think of bloggers who had started this year and could only come up with two or three. I know they’re out there, and hopefully this will give them a little boost so more people can know about them (including myself)! And you’re right, they might even have something for us that we haven’t seen before, which is exciting :)

    • Haha, we all need hiatuses sometimes. I only get bothered when they’re the ones the person just never comes back from. It’s so heartbreaking! (So yay! I’ve been glad you’re back :D)

I’m interested to see what the guest posters submit as well! Should be good :)

  8. I’m so excited to hear from our new bloggy friends! I think spreading the bloggy love is a really important thing to keep our community tight and positive. Good luck on your search for newbie bloggers, girls! <3

  10. Thanks for tagging me! Unfortunately, I haven’t thought of an interesting idea for a post :( But as soon as an idea pops in my head, I’ll immediately head to this post and submit my thoughts! Thank you for giving us newbies this kind of spotlights heehee :D
