News & Updates at Oh, the Books!
As mentioned in last week’s Weekly Recap, Kelley is on hiatus as her husband is coming back to the States and they’re moving to a new place. This mean it’s just me, Asti, and so far I haven’t burned the blog down so I’m going to say things are going well. There will be no “Tweet of the Week”, “Writing”, or “Videos of the Week” sections in the linkage because those are usually Kelley’s doing and I’m too lazy to hunt some down, so sorry for those of you who look forward to those sections each week but I’M ONLY HUMAN! Hopefully my little collection of bookish and bloggish links will be good enough.
In Case You Missed It
Here’s the posts I published this week, like the little champ I am.
- Bookish Life: It’s Not Ass-Tea – includes my first YouTube video!
- Bookish Tag: The Cinderella Tag
- Bookish Mail: Standalone Recs with Kaja
- Bookish Games: Lunar Chronicles Edition Day Five
Our Lives This Week
In Asti’s Life…
I’ve spent the week at my aunt’s house- and animal-sitting, as I sometimes do. It’s actually been quite nice because it allows me to stock up on some alone time. I mean, as much as I love my parents and being reunited with them is nice after a year-and-a-half abroad, there are still times when I rather be able to walk around the house or do what I want without having to worry about how it’s affecting others.
Of course, the one weird thing about being there is that I suddenly dived into Booktube and found it awkward recording in their house. I found myself suddenly filled with inspiration to record, record, record, but then didn’t know if it would be like an invasion of privacy since viewers would be able to see their house in the background of my videos. Hm. I ended up recording two anyways that will go up before the end of the month, so hopefully they don’t mind. >.>
So yeah, I guess that’s one of the other big news this week: I joined the Booktube community! It’s something I’ve always been interested in doing, and is the real reason why I bought my DSLR (though using it for my Bookstagram account is also nice), but in my mind I always had excuses not to do it: it would be too hard to do while blogging, no one would watch them, I don’t even know what the hell I’m doing, etc. But after having a Twitter chat about my name and deciding recording a video would be the best way to get everyone to say it right, I decided to give it a go.
I have to say, I’m excited about it. I haven’t quite figured out exactly how I want to use it, especially in relation to my blog (so PLEASE answer the Q of the week if you can!), but it’s given me this burst of inspiration and motivation that I haven’t felt in a long, long time. I’m suddenly finding myself writing and scheduling posts for the week, responding to comments and commenting back, and yeah… it’s just a positive thing for me right now and I don’t think that’s a bad thing.
And, lastly, I have received a semi-promotion at work this week. Yayyy!
I don’t remember if I mentioned it previously, but our store manager broke her foot. (Ouch!) She won’t be able to come back to work until August at the earliest, so the team decided that we would need a temporary key holder to help cover her absence – and that keyholder will be me!
It’ll only be for a couple of weeks, but I’m excited for it nonetheless. It’s sort of nice to receive confirmation that the team recognizes your hard work and trusts you to help manage things, and I’m looking forward to expanding my knowledge about how things work at the store. Because I’m a nerd like that. I like soaking in all the knowledge whenever I can.
So yeah, it’s been quite the eventful week! AND THREE MORE LEFT UNTIL I’M IN LONDON!! 😀
